Roman Capitals in Pencil with Christopher Haanes

  • 14 Sillwood Road Brighton, England, BN1 2LF United Kingdom (map)

This workshop gives an excellent introduction to typefaces, type design and calligraphy. These are essential shapes, and make up the back bone of sans serif typefaces and written or drawn Roman Capitals. We will look at the proportions of the letters and their geometrical relevance to one another as well as doing some freehand writing, including discussions about optical spacing.

An introduction to the formal Roman Capital forms with internationally acclaimed calligrapher and bookdesigner Christopher Haanes (see below). A focus on pencil-made letters and their proportions, as well as their relationship to contemporary typographic shapes.
